Hi Panos
thanks !
messages on page 1 and page 3 are the ones that I love all the more.
Regards.
Franco
Well I had promised there’d be more!
These are so cool Panos! I’m always searching for stuff like this to use on holiday posts. Keep ’em coming, please!
Will do, will do!
Hi Panos,
Guess what… I need your help again…
Can you figure out how to modify this Flash code here for wordpress.com using the gigya method?
Thanks much in advance for your time.
Wow, two great finds in one (Tagul and Textsnip)!
That code is simple – shortcode is:
http://textsnip.com/f0edf4
(Dimensions adjustable)
But it doesn’t work, obviously because you hadn’t configured the thing.
Actaully textsnip is an old friend of mine:
See here.
Thanks for the code. I am sure it works. Thing is, all I see is a big N/A. For both my code and your code. Do you have any idea why?
Never mind. I know now what I was doing wrong.
Looks like my coding was right. All along I missed the “save” button and so my tag cloud was not available later and that’s why the N/A.
Hmmm, I know I am short-sighted, but this is really too much.
Reminds me of the joke where a guy wonders why his new computer won’t start up. He didn’t even turn on the power!
Thanks for your help anyway.
Ok then!
(My guess was you hadn’t configured it; not saving it amounts to the same thing!)
PS Textsnip goes to my sidebar – thanks again!
Hi,
Sorry, my internet is in and out and often slower than a modem connection (??? makes me feel really stupid not to be able to fix it). What does ‘Textsnip’ do? I can’t seem to ever connect to it?
Hi!
You paste your HTML in the text field and get a link for it. Very handy for giving a code to someone without having to convert it or enclose it in the sourcecode shortcode.
Guess what!
I have figured out a way to use Tagul to add a Facebook Likebox in a wordpress.com blog!
How to add a Facebook Likebox in a wordpress.com blog – part 2
While I am not really a fan of Facebook Likebox, what excites me is the fact that Tagul can be used as a Flash workaround for pasting some iframe contents within a wordpress.com blog. That means, at least some of the iframe stuff can be used by wordpress.com bloggers! :)
Thank you. I was imagining something else.
@NG: Thanks. I’m having difficulty understanding this, as I’m not familiar with Tagul or Facebook. Care to make it simpler for me?
Okay, sorry…forget Facebook. Facebook is not an issue here. The main thing is Facebook Likebox can be added in a site via iframe code. It’s the iframe thing that’s I’m so excited about.
Usually, you can’t add widgets in wordpress.com that require you to add iframe code. This is where Tagul comes in. Although Tagul is a tag creation tool, I used it to link to a webpage. It will link to any webpage. If I choose to link to a “frame” that I found in an iframe code, then Tagul will link to it, too. It will produce a “text link” within a box and when it is clicked the frame page opens up in the box. Right in your blog.
And that’s how anyone can have iframe widgets like Google Books, Google Calendar etc in a free wordpress.com blog. If you visit my blog, my recent posts will give you a better idea.
Oh, you do know by now that Tagul offers Flash codes. That means with the help of Tagul we can convert iframe widgets to Flash widgets, which can then be added in a wordpress.com blog via the gigya method.
Want to convert iframe to Flash? Tagul is the answer.
Thanks!
I had visited your blog, of course, but at the time you only had the Likebox post on.
And of course what I’m interested in is the iframe business in general. If things are as you say, your discovery is very important!
I’ll need to experiment myself to come to grips with this, but first I needed an explanation like the one you gave me above, and I needed examples like the ones you posted in the meantime.
But your Google calendar (would have been a clear example for me) isn’t working. So please check the series of comments that starts here and try the doc suggested by श्रेया – to help both her and me!
Update, update! Just visited your blog again, and now the GC is working! And you’ve got a new goodie too (PPTs via Authorstream) – hey, I can’t cope with all this!
(Just joking: I just need time to try these out myself…)
I tried to insert the HTML code of this widget in my post but it did not work, its not showing the flash, instead it is showing a link (when click it opens the flash).

how do i change the coding, i am lost, am new to this blogging
Please help

thank you Panos, but i did not get how to turn the code to gigya.
can you explain more please
thanks alot
You can copy-paste the embed code from the widget page and the shortcode I’m giving in the post, and compare them to see how the transformation is done. Or (simpler) just copy my shortcode and substitute “MESSAGE%20HERE” with your own message.
What about Scribd books ?
Example …. this:
[Code relic removed – P.]
Same thing probably. But you need to give me the right code, or the link to the Scribd page you’re interested in. Note that you cannot use the “code” tag to display HTML – see point 4 here on how to do it:
https://wpbtips.wordpress.com/comment-guidelines/
The Scribd book embed code is:
[gigya src="http://d1.scribdassets.com/ScribdViewer.swf" flashvars="document_id=46966960&access_key=key-b9gvhsroqqlj7hm3qfk&page=1&viewMode=list" allowfullscreen="true" height="300" width="400" wmode="opaque" bgcolor="#ffffff" ]
Dimensions can be changed.
Thanks a lot !!!
It works at wordpress.com ….
It doesn’t work on wordpress.org (blogs installed at sch.gr) :(
Do you have any idea?
You’re welcome.
My blog is about wp.com blogs – I don’t know anything about self-hosted blogs. Try the original embed code; if it doesn’t work, you can go to http://wordpress.org/ and search the plugins section then the forum.
dear panos.. i want to put abowman gadget to my blog.. what i supposed to do?
here’s the code
[Invalid URL removed – P.]
what’s wrong? i dont understand script or else :'(
The link you gave is wrong. You need to go here:
http://abowman.com/google-modules/dog/
Click “edit settings”, customize the gadget, copy the embed code, turn it into a shortcode as explained here:
https://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2010/07/22/gigya-shortcode-3-widgets/
If you can’t figure it out, I can convert it for you, but I need that code. You can show it to me via Textsnip – see point 4 here:
https://wpbtips.wordpress.com/comment-guidelines/
well, im not sure which one the code is..
this one i got after i customized the gadget :
http://textsnip.com/7823c9
and the other, i got directly from iGoogle:
http://textsnip.com/730d47 —> im not sure this is kind of code. looks like a url, doesn’t it?
wait..thought i made a mistake here…
i misinterpret ur command bout the code.
here’s the code:
http://textsnip.com/200330 —> hope im right this time.
so sorry i make u mad maybe ^_^
well, i do my best to convert the embed code into shortcode. actually, the widgets i want, appear on my page. but there is something didnt work. the attributes&value doesn’t work at all. only the background looks like what i want, but the other just doesnt work.
here’s my last attempt converting shortcode:
http://textsnip.com/8ac7e5
@panos, would u tell me where the mistakes are?i wanna learn more bout this stuff..
thx bro..
Your mistake was the flashvars. Shortcode must be:
@panos: aaah… okay… thought i start to understand this stuff.. im gonna learn it more..
thanks a lot dude, u’re awesome! i put it already on my page!
