Very good.
Magnifying glass in particular.
What sort of topics do you search for to find such eccentric things? It must be fun, being you!
Posted by Tess | December 15, 2010, 07:42Hi Panos
Indeed really awesome !
Thanks !
Franco
Posted by putignanonelmirino | December 15, 2010, 14:03@Tess: I don’t search for each separate widget – and certainly not for widgets I couldn’t imagine they exist! I searched for scrolling messages, text scrollers and the like when I prepared the previous widget post; then I just browsed the sites I found, to spot other interesting widgets.
@Franco: You’re welcome! There’s more to come, by the way: next post in this series will be messages with animated background.
Posted by Panos | December 15, 2010, 15:59Very nice findings Panos as always! I might insert one as a Christmas card post for my visitors.
I have an off-topic question now (and sorry for asking here but I cannot find any contact form or email address for you). Currently the Greek support forums are called “Please give me a name!” What should the name be in Greek? In other words, how do you say “WordPress.com Forums in Greek” in Greek? Thanks!
Posted by Sergio Ortega | December 21, 2010, 22:46No problem Sergio: I don’t have a contact form because I mostly get technical questions and I feel the answers to these should be available to others too.
The Greek forum is a pitiful thing: it’s got very little traffic, and apparently its moderator has abandoned it (hasn’t shown up for almost a year). Anyway, in Greek it should be “WordPress.com – Ελληνικό Φόρουμ”. Or you could avoid Greek characters and opt for “Greek WordPress.com Forum” instead. Why are you asking?
Posted by Panos | December 22, 2010, 02:13@Panos: I’m now the moderator of the French forums and while placing a request to change “fr.WordPress.Com Forums” for something more appropriate, I thought I would ask them to replace the ridiculous “Please give me a name!” :-)
Posted by Sergio Ortega | December 22, 2010, 02:28I see – by all means do!
Posted by Panos | December 22, 2010, 02:35is there any widget where unicode can work ?
Posted by श्रेया | December 24, 2010, 09:31Sorry, I don’t understand the question.
Posted by Panos | December 24, 2010, 19:00@Panos: I think श्रेया means that he cannot insert text in their language in those widgets. It happened to me too. The “Christmas Card” widget does not display accentuated characters (for example, it said Joyeuses Ftes instead of Joyeuses Fêtes).
Posted by Sergio Ortega | December 24, 2010, 19:10Ah, I see, thanks Sergio. No, it doesn’t seem to be possible (I tried HTML entities too).

Posted by Panos | January 4, 2011, 09:391) (http://www.wondersay.com/) this site allows unicode and present the text in animated form, they says it can be embed onto ur blog. but i coun’t do that. is there any solution to embed widget from this site on wordpress.com blog ?
2) how to embed widgets made from iframe html code onto wordpress.com blog ?
Posted by श्रेया | January 7, 2011, 07:543) is there any kind of slider widget we can embed on wordpress.com blog’s post / page.
Posted by श्रेया | January 7, 2011, 08:031&2) Sorry, the codes provided are iframes; can’t be used in wp.com.
3) Please explain what you mean by “slider”.
Posted by Panos | January 7, 2011, 14:35३) slides used for blog’s front page..e.g. http://rhea-besttheme.blogspot.com/ kind of theme
Posted by श्रेया | January 8, 2011, 10:29or anything like (http://www.vuvox.com/)
Posted by श्रेया | January 8, 2011, 11:48Thanks! There’s a variety of slideshows you could use – see here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/slideshows/
https://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2010/07/17/gigya-2-flickr-slideshows/
http://shongjog.wordpress.com/2010/08/23/how-to-insert-a-flickr-slideshow-in-a-wordpress-com-blog/
Unfortunately in wp.com themes there’s no way to embed such a slideshow the way it’s embedded in the examples you linked to (except if you have the paid CSS upgrade and much experience in CSS editing). So if you want a slideshow on your front page it must be inserted in a sticky post or in the sidebar.
Possible alternative:

Posted by Panos | January 8, 2011, 16:00panos thanx for ur efforts.ur postings r really helpful.
what i want is…
1) i will create images of few of my posts as well as related posts from other blogs
2) i wish to create a slideshow of these images….but
3) simultaneously those images should be linked to that particular post/page.
how to do that ?
Posted by श्रेया | January 9, 2011, 08:28I don’t know if it’s possible. The WP slideshow as well as the three other slideshows directly supported by WP (Slide, RockYou, SlideShare) cannot be configured to link to posts you specify. The Modularity Lite slideshow does link to post, but it’s confined to the posts on the front page of your own blog. PLease visit Sanjida’s post (the third link I gave above) and ask her if any of the slideshows she has collected can work the way you want.
Posted by Panos | January 9, 2011, 11:18Panos ……http://www.wibbitz.com/ is using the options of slider of posts….it can be used on wordpress.org also. though don’t know how to embed it on wordpress.com. I have asked them too…but no reply yet.
Posted by श्रेया | May 26, 2011, 10:27If you mean a slider of images that link to your posts when clicked, no it can’t be done.
Posted by Panos | May 26, 2011, 14:48Panos, I need your help. I have a banner here and the widget code here. But none of those code works. Please tell me you know the right code. Thank You, Panos…..
Posted by nandobase | August 2, 2011, 18:17Sure I can make the code work. But where do you want to put that? If you want it for your sidebar, it doesn’t fit: at the right width the text is too small. I suggest you select a different design.
Posted by Panos | August 2, 2011, 22:17No, not the sidebar. I want to put it on my page right here under the photos on the bottom. And if possible, I would like to change the width to 500 pixel. Thank You, Panos……
Posted by nandobase | August 3, 2011, 01:57For the widget, paste this into the HTML editor:

If you want the link to Widgipedia too, paste this below the widget code:

Posted by Panos | August 3, 2011, 03:12…… And it works perfectly on my page. Thank you very very much, Panos. :)
Posted by nandobase | August 3, 2011, 03:34Yes, it’s fine, and it fits the overall design of the page very nicely!
